"I am extremely thankful to NJ SOPHE for being awarded the Karen Denard Goldman scholarship! This scholarship financially helped me apply for doctoral programs, allowing me to further my education. Through this scholarship, I have also been fortunate in that I have met multiple people who have shared inspiring memories of Karen Denard Goldman and her work in the field, inspiring me to continue my work in Public Health. Being involved in NJ SOPHE, and receiving this scholarship has allowed me to meet more people, has introduced me to some of my mentors, and financially helped me with my dream of pursuing a doctoral degree."
Monica Rodriguez, MPH, CHES: Received 2016 Karen Denard Goldman Scholarship
"Being awarded the Karen Denard Goldman Scholarship was an honor for not only myself but my family, colleagues, and professors as well. The scholarship assisted me financially during a semester where I was taking 5 graduate courses and commuting regularly to school and several jobs. Having this support and being recognized by NJ SOPHE for my efforts in the field of public health motivated me even further. This past May I completed my Master of Public Health with honors at Montclair State University. I look forward to continue making contributions to the rewarding field of public health. Thank you NJ SOPHE!"
Aurea Jane De Leon, CHES: Received 2016 Anna Skiff Scholarship
“Winning the Anna Skiff scholarship provided financial support that allowed me to take the CHES exam. Thanks to the generosity of NJ SOPHE, I am now a Certified Health Education Specialist! The certification provides benefits that helps further my professional goals. For instance, I gained free access to peer-reviewed journals that helps me stay current in my knowledge about emerging and current health problems. I am thrilled to be able to show my certification as proof of my competency. And it’s all thanks to having received the Anna Skiff scholarship award!”

Linda Brown, MPH, MCHES: Received 2016 President's Award
“Receiving the President's Award at the 2016 Annual Meeting was a true honor. I've been a part of NJ SOPHE since I entered the public health work force in New Jersey in 2009 and pretty quickly got involved with different roles on the Board. Since that time, my roles have changed and my contributions have increased. This is mostly because I have a real love for NJ SOPHE, the people that I get to work with and the idea that I get to help represent Health Education in New Jersey. I believe my membership with NJ SOPHE and this award have primarily strengthened my connections and confidence in my skills. By nature, I like to be involved and have found a niche with NJ SOPHE that I believe I can offer my skills. Being recognized was never a motivating factor for my involvement, but it is an enormous honor, which I hold dear to my heart. I will continue to stay involved with NJ SOPHE and encouraging others to get involved, as I think it offers a camaraderie that is unmatched in other professional circles in New Jersey.”
