NJSOPHE history: Katie joined NJSOPHE in 2024 and is excited to contribute as the Communications Coordinator. She looks forward to working with the communications team to amplify NJSOPHE’s voice and support its mission. Katie brings her expertise in mental health initiatives, community wellness, and strategic communications to the role.
Bio:
Katie Bisaha is a dedicated professional with experience in community health initiatives, program development, and strategic communications. As the Communications Coordinator for the New Jersey Society for Public Health Education (NJSOPHE), Katie applies her expertise to advance the organization’s mission of promoting health equity and public health education throughout New Jersey.
Katie brings over ten years of professional experience to her role, including her current position as a Community Health & Policy Associate at the New Jersey Health Care Quality Institute (NJHCQI). At NJHCQI, she advances statewide community health initiatives such as Conversation of Your Life (COYL) and the Mayors Wellness Campaign (MWC), working closely with over 400 communities across New Jersey by providing tools, resources, and technical support in advancing health and wellness in local communities. She is also a certified Youth and Adult Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) instructor, equipping individuals with skills to assist those experiencing mental health challenges.
With a background in public health and a Bachelor of Science degree in Nutrition and Food Science from Montclair State University, Katie brings a wealth of knowledge in areas such as substance use disorder prevention, nutrition education, and community wellness. She also holds an Associate of Science degree in Culinary Arts from Johnson & Wales University, which has contributed to her holistic approach to health and wellness.
Katie is currently pursuing a dual Master’s degree in Social Work (MSW) and Public Health (MPH) at Rutgers University, combining her interdisciplinary education with her professional experience to address complex health challenges. She has led initiatives focused on mental health, healthy aging, food security, and coalition building, as well as developed strategic communications to engage diverse audiences.
Outside of her professional work, Katie enjoys crocheting, reading, practicing yoga, playing video games, and cooking and baking. She brings this same creativity and balance to her work at NJSOPHE, where she is committed to amplifying the voices of public health educators and advancing innovative communications strategies to inspire positive change across New Jersey.
